I've read lots about American Japanese placed in Interment camps during World War 2 What I'd never heard before is many German Americans had the same fate What really surprised me is that many of this prisoners weren't Americans at all The US government's long arm reached into countries of South America to extradite them to POW camps inside the US The premise of this book is fascinating The story after story after story of these people got repetitive though I didn't want to read of the same over and over any For me I would have enjoyed the story if Estlack had taken all this research and information and put it into a historical fiction book with these things happening to characters I already knew and cared about I allowed myself to start reading another book before I finished Shattered Dreams and now I just don't want to finish this book

Anti communist paranoia during World War II led to the internment of thousands of German Americans in prison camps throughout t. This was a interesting read It was interesting to read about the stories of German Americans that were interned during the war It made you feel sorry for them because of the things they lost The only issue I had was some of the author's viewpoints I didn't agree with when it came to comparing their situation to the current day and the Patriot Act Overall a good book that brings to light the stories of so many families that lost everything based on the suspicion of them being tied to the Nazi regime
