This book is brilliant for KS1 and is illustrated so beautifully A cross curricular link to science would be when teaching about seasonal changes as this book has poems relating to every season The poem ‘spring greens’ can relate to a topic all about gardening and allows children to explore planting their own plants This book can also link to geography and teaching about weather In art children can use this book to look at the drawing techniues used in the book Finally for music the book allows children to read poems aloud and use their voices expressively In literacy you could use this book To start the topic you could ask them to look at the front cover and talk about the illustration and the title and what type of book they think this is In the next session you could talk to the children about being ‘out and about’ what they think it means and their experiences of being outdoors The poem ‘wind’ is this book can be studied and linked to movement The picture from this page could be used and the children could think about what the characters in the picture might be saying or thinking This poem is also good for noun and adjective spotting There is so much this poem book could be used for and eventually you could get the children to write their own poems

Out and AboutCollection of poems Katie and her little brother Olly are ready for whatever each day offers sunshine wind rain mist or snow From the happy sights and s. A very cleverly written book with some lovely poems which could easily be used in a classroom The fire poem would be great for before or after fireworks night as it depicts the fire as a dragon which is a great metaphor The children could perform to this poem and make a seuence of movements with music Or they could do some painting of fire which can be very creative to help them develop their fine motor skills I also really enjoyed the illustrations which went with the poems A fantastic book to use with children
