I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED A COPY FROM THE RACHEL E CARTER YA BOOK CLUB ON GOODREADSThis was an OK read Overall not that great I don't remember very much from it as I honestly skimmed through the majority of the story I read the entirety of the first few chapters and I was so confused and had no idea what was going on She was part of a group of people who fought shadows I wish there would have been well any really background information in the beginning There were times when I felt like there was info dump and then there were times when I was so lost I would have liked to know about her time at wherever she was Taram I'm still not entirely sure what most of the words meant in this book Maybe it was explained in the pages that I skimmed through but still I wish the story would have started from when she first entered the training instead of her running away The characters were a jumble to me as well I honestly don't really remember much about them besides their names No one really stood out Well except Enoch I really liked him and he was the one that we saw the least of It actually wasn't a bad beginning But after she started her life at the little village town it started getting boring and hard to follow There were flashbacks during her time at the village but it felt really disconnected It was hard to follow the flow of the story because of it I wish there would have been of a story about Josh and Nita All we knew about them was from what the MC recalled Overall the story was terribly confusing and boring because of it Interesting plot line execution wasn't that great If the author writes a preuel to the story however that explains the definition of the world and a in depth look at what exactly is going on maybe I'll pick it up Otherwise I think I'm done with this world

Actual rating 35Sam Reed has a beautiful style she plays around with the storyline in a way that's incredibly fun to read but this book didn't bring it all in my opinion It starts off strongly then it declines a bit; it stays uite consistent throughout but I didn't connect to all the characters the way I wanted Maybe the timing for this book wasn't right for me and I promise to give it another shot in the future Until then my conclusion is that it's a decent read but I didn't connect to the story as well as I should've

I want to start this review by saying I received a free e arc copy from the author in exchange for an honest review and this in no way affects my review It's hard to pick what I loved the most about this book The characters are absolutely freaking amazing especially Velma and Sue Velma is such a kickass heroine I completely fell in love with her Then there's just the whole concept and world building that was absolutely stellar I was totally taken in by it I was kept guessing the whole way through and couldn't possibly imagine how it was going to end And the ending was the best part I absolutely loved how it wrapped up and couldn't have asked for a better ending All in all I absolutely loved everything about this book and my only regret is that it isn't longer Because I totally want of this world and these characters
