An Honest Review From Someone Who Doesn't Read FantasyFull disclosure I know the Author and have taken almost 2 years to read this because I like the author but also almost all of the buzzwords surrounding this book are things I just objectively don't care for So I will discuss what I did and didn't like about the book but be aware that the things I didn't like may well be things that the target audience wouldThere were a lot of intense detailed battle scenes this is something my mind just totally glazes over in movies and books I think that these scenes were told with good vivid descriptions but honestly that is just not a thing that interests me Same with the different breeds of dragons and their personalities I think that these things were well explained and I could visualize them I just truthfully don't really care about dragons However what I did really enjoy the characters politics and overall themes of the story A problem I often have with fantasy is that it is hard for me to keep up with a world other than the one I know I had very minimal confusion following the different species and locations in this story and felt that things were very well explained The various politics secrets and motivations of all of the characters evolved through out the story and always kept me wondering what was going to happen next The visual details were also great I felt like I could see this world and characterization was extremely well done The relationships between characters all had a lot of layers and it was really interesting to watch their interactions unfold There were also consistent themes of uestioning what you've been told and what you thought you knew which I can definitely always get on board withWhile this may not have been my favorite book of all time it opened me up to a lot that I wouldn't usually read I had a genuinely good time getting to know these characters I would 100% recommend this to lovers of fantasy adventure and well told coming of age stories
